1. What is analysis by the finite element method?
It is a numerical analysis for solving problems by discretizing the structure (or medium) under study. It can be virtually applied to any type of structure.

2. What is CAE?
CAE stands for “Computer-Aided Engineering.” A CAE analysis involves using a computer program to evaluate different aspects of a structure’s or component’s behavior. It includes stress and deformation analysis, thermal analysis, fluid dynamics analysis, mechanism analysis, among others.

3. How does a CAE program work?
Typically, a CAE program can be defined in three stages:
  1. Pre-processing stage, in which the model to be analyzed is prepared;
  2. Problem-solving stage, in which the set of equations defining the problem is solved;
  3. Post-processing stage, in which the results obtained in the previous stage can be analyzed.
4. How can CAE help my company?
Using CAE tools in product development brings benefits to a company. CAE can replace the trial-and-error process in project development. Through CAE, it is possible to evaluate multiple configurations of a component’s geometry without having to build prototypes for each configuration. This saves time and reduces costs.

5. Who uses CAE tools?
The use of CAE began in the aeronautical and aerospace industries. Due to the high cost of computers at the time, it remained restricted to these fields for quite a while. As computers became more accessible, several finite element programs emerged, and CAE tools spread throughout the automotive and shipbuilding industries. Currently, CAE is utilized in diverse fields, ranging from the design of plastic components to the engineering of nuclear reactors.
